Maude was born in Fluvanna County to the late John and Mary Jane (Carroll) Johnson. He was discharged in October, 1864. Two children survive, A. W. Bybee and Miss Merl S. Bybee, both of this city; also a brother, H. W. Bybee, of Shadwell, this county, and a sister, Mrs. Lucy A. Thomas of this city.
